After ten years of playing in the streets, at weddings, and in restaurants, the Gipsy Kings were swept away in a feast of commercial and critical success in the late '80s. By the late '90s, they had sold over 15 million albums worldwide and become one of the best-selling all-Spanish language acts in U.S. history. Their Greatest Hits collection, released in 1998, aptly reflects the time-perfected technique and soulful delivery that allowed them to transcend ethnic and age differences as few bands have. The introductory sequence of songs simply explodes out of the blocks. If consecutive hip-shakers "Djobi, Djoba," "Baila Me," "Bamboleo," "Pida Me La," "Bem, Bem, Maria," and "Volare" don't have you at least tapping your feet, someone ought to take your pulse…

George Thorogood is an American blues rock musician from Wilmington, Delaware. His "high-energy boogie-blues" sound became a staple of 1980s rock radio, with hits like his original songs "Bad to the Bone" and "I Drink Alone". He has also helped popularize older songs by American icons, such as "Move It on Over," "Who Do You Love?" and "House Rent Boogie/One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer", which became staples of classic rock radio. With his band, the Delaware Destroyers, Thorogood has released over 20 albums, of which two have been certified Platinum and six have been certified Gold. He has sold 15 million albums worldwide. Thorogood and band continue to tour extensively and in 2014 celebrated their 40th anniversary performing…

Every era needs its crooner, and in the early '60s, it was Bobby Vinton. Vinton's sentimental balladeering and orchestral, middle-of-the-road arrangements were a throwback to a decade earlier, before rock & roll had found its mass market. If Vinton is sometimes identified with a rock & roll audience, it's only because his music was bought by young listeners for a time, and because he still catches some airplay on oldies stations. What he sang was vocal pop, landing some of the biggest hits of the early '60s with "Roses Are Red (My Love)," "Blue on Blue," "There! I've Said It Again," "Mr. Lonely," and "Blue Velvet," the last of which has become his signature song in the wake of its notorious prominence in David Lynch's Blue Velvet.

Mp3 CBR320 kbps | 46:06 min | 118 Mb (5% Rec.)
Doo Wop, Early R&B, Soul, Oldies | Label: Chess / MCA Records

This mid-'80s anthology was a good sampler covering seminal material from the vocal group that championed "blow" harmony. The Moonglows' finest tracks – among them "Sincerely," "The Ten Commandments of Love," and "Twelve Months of the Year" – featured brilliant vocals from Bobby Lester or Harvey Fuqua. The sound was acceptable, and the annotation was brief but thorough.

Set the time machine for early morning on KSIB, Creston, Iowa. February, 1950. Hot on the heels of the collectable 10' vinyl Record Store Day EP Omnivore Recordings is proud to present The Garden Spot Programs, 1950, featuring 24 performances, unheard for 64 years, from the one and only Hank Williams! Rescued from obscurity, these shows originally aired over 6 decades ago, and The Garden Spot Programs, 1950 collects material from the four of them now known to exist. From hits to standards to songs rarely (if ever) performed, this is pure Hank Williams, including playful, between song banter. Fully restored to incredible quality, The Garden Spot Programs, 1950 is more like being in the studio when they were recorded than actually listening to them on the radio!
