After the quartet adventures of Currents and Post Scriptum, Wolfert Brederode returns to a piano trio setting, and Black Ice makes an apt metaphor for his new music, with its gleaming lyricism, transparency, and hint of danger. “I find the combination of danger and beauty intriguing”, he says. There is sleek melodic invention both from the leader and from Icelandic bassist Gulli Gudmundsson, and Jasper van Hulten proves to be a resourceful addition to the team, a tone-sensitive drummer adept at embellishing the sensitive musical language and sense of interplay.

Black Ice is a nice image for Dutch pianist Wolfert Brederode's new trio music, with its gleaming lyricism, transparency, and hint of danger, as well as sleek melodic invention both from the leader and from Icelandic bassist Gulli Gudmundsson. Brederode and Gudmundsson have collaborated often over the last two decades in contexts from free improvisation to theatre music and have a keenly honed intuitive understanding. Jasper van Hulten is a resourceful addition to the team, a tone-sensitive drummer adept at embellishing the sensitive musical language and sense of interplay. The album, recorded at Lugano's Studio RSI in July 2015 and produced by Manfred Eicher, is issued as the Brederode Trio goes on tour in the Netherlands. Black Ice follows two previous releases on ECM as leader, Currents and Post Scriptum (in his quartet with Claudio Puntin, Mats Eilertsen and Samuel Rohrer).

2015 debut album by the Swedish rock band. Art Nation was formed 2013 in Gothenburg, Sweden, after lead singer Alexander Strandell's departure from his former band Diamond Dawn. Strandell, already well known for his strong voice and energetic stage presence, decided to raise the bar, and gathered some of the best musicians available - bassist Simon Gudmundsson being the first, shortly followed by Theodor Hedström and Christoffer Borg. Art Nation spent 2014 playing shows, as well as guesting national TV and radio shows, further building their fan base and reputation. The band got its final line-up when adding second guitarist Johan Gustavsson, together with drummer Carl Tudén, who was recruited just after winning the Swedish Drum Championships…

According to Greek mythology, Elysium is a paradisiac „island of the blissful“ in the utmost West of the orbit for those heroes who were made immortal by the Gods. Tasting the water from the fount of Lethe on lanes full of roses, all earthly troubles are fading away. On his fifth studio album, the Icelandic producer Jonas Thor Gudmundsson takes us right there. Besides his Mikrolux album "Magrathea" (2003), he caused a furore by his Elektrolux long players "Midnight Drive" (2000) and "Avalon" (2003)…
