Among the million-plus refugees in Germany are tens of thousands who've fled Middle Eastern countries where being gay can get you killed. Reporter Shaunagh Connaire and director Rebecca Kenna spend time with three such refugees, and discover that gay refugees in the refugee camps and shelters of Berlin and Cologne face violent attacks and abuse from fellow refugees and migrants, with the hatred and dangers they faced in the Middle East following them to Germany, and with the attacks also feeding into the wider political debate about the challenges of assimilating refugees without compromising German values.

Today’s gay man enjoys unprecedented, hard-won social acceptance. Despite this victory, however, serious problems still exist. Substance abuse, depression, suicide, and sex addiction among gay men are at an all-time high, causing many to ask, “Are we really better off?” Drawing on contemporary research, psychologist Alan Downs’s own struggle with shame and anger, and stories from his patients, The Velvet Rage passionately describes the stages of a gay man’s journey out of shame and offers practical and inspired strategies to stop the cycle of avoidance and self-defeating behavior.

ISBN: 080783209X | edition 2008 | PDF | 585 pages | 5 mb

Giving voice to a population rarely acknowledged in writings about the South, Sweet Tea collects life stories from black gay men who were born, raised, and continue to live in the southern United States. E. Patrick Johnson challenges stereotypes of the South as "backward" or "repressive," suggesting that these men draw upon the performance of "southernness"—politeness, coded speech, and religiosity, for example—to legitimate themselves as members of both southern and black cultures. At the same time, Johnson argues, they deploy those same codes to establish and build friendship networks and to find sexual partners and life partners.

Possibly the most offensively funny movie we've ever seen, Nine Dead Gay Guys throws political correctness out the window and delivers some incredibly demented belly laughs. This is a the tale of Kenny (Mulhearn) and Byron (Mackey) - two very cute lads from Ireland who move to London to hit the big time. But what they end up doing is servicing gay men in exchange for cash. Not that these two wholesome boys are gay, but what's a little oral sex between men? Well, maybe they are gay - or at least maybe Kenny is gay, he thinks.
All irrelevant, as the Queen has been murdered and there is cash for the winner of the "Really Hard Red Bull Test" only if they can find "The Bread in the Bed" - all of this is connected to the Chasidic Jew Golders Green (who is very discreet, you must understand). In order for the boys to gain access to the "bread" one must pass the "Red Bull Test" - which is to be at least as hung as two cans of Red Bull stacked on top of each other. Kenny was up to the challenge!
This amazingly original and fast-paced film will offend just about everyone who takes it seriously. There is the "Desperate Dwarf" whose 3 1/2 foot height matches his small penis (he may have a small one, but he's got one hell of an ass); there is the "Iron Lady", the nasty bull dyke proprietress of a gay bar and there is "Dick Cheese Deepak" whose foreskin problem prevents everyone from going down on him. Funny, wacked-out and completely meaninglesss, this film has caused walk-outs at Cannes and controversy wherever it plays - we wouldn't miss it for the world.

How the Religious Right Shaped Lesbian and Gay Activism

How the Religious Right Shaped Lesbian and Gay Activism
Publisher: Univ Of Minnesota Press | pages: 200 | 2008 | ISBN: 0816649170 | PDF | 10,4 mb

While gay rights are on the national agenda now, activists have spent decades fighting for their platform, seeing themselves as David against the religious right’s Goliath. At the same time, the religious right has continuously and effectively countered the endeavors of lesbian and gay activists, working to repeal many of the laws prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation and to progress a constitutional amendment “protecting” marriage. In this accessible and grounded work, Tina Fetner uncovers a remarkably complex relationship between the two movements—one that transcends political rivalry. Fetner shows how gay activists and the religious right have established in effect a symbiotic relationship in which each side very much affects the development of its counterpart. As lesbian and gay activists demand an end to prejudice, inclusion in marriage, the right to serve in the military, and full citizenship regardless of sexual orientation, the religious right has responded with antigay planks in Republican party platforms and the blocking of social and political change efforts.
