Liverpool music from the post war years to the present day. Liverpool is one of the most vibrant cities in the world. The film puts into context the musical outpourings of nearly 60 years of world conquering music and the hundreds of bands who have contributed to a musical scene that produced the world's greatest band - The Beatles. What might not always be understood is that in that golden period of 1956 - 1964, Liverpool played host to over 1000 bands and hundreds of venues. It was the home of the UK's largest Country & Western scene, of a hundred skiffle bands, jazz bands and folk. Toxteth was the centre of the black music scene and influences poured in from the docks and the nearby US Airbase.

John Lee Hooker's greatness lies in his ability to perform the same songs the same way yet somehow sound different and memorable in the process. He operates at maximum efficiency in minimal surroundings with little production or assistance. That was the case on a 1969 session for Black and Blue; it was just Hooker and his guitar moaning, wailing, and narrating on 10 tracks which included familiar ditties "Boogie Chillen," "Love Affair," "Big Boss Lady," and "Cold Chills." Evidence has now not only reissued these 10 but has added another six bonus cuts, bringing the CD total to 16. If you have ever heard any Hooker, you will not be surprised or stunned by these renditions; you will simply enjoy hearing him rework them one more time, finding a new word, phrase, line, or riff to inject.

The Beatles’ Get Back sessions have been written about to death, so we'll keep it brief. The Beatles gathered on January 2, 1969 at Twickenham Studios with the intention of rehearsing brand new songs for a concert that would be televised live throughout the world. They also agreed to have the entire process filmed for an accompanying documentary.

Like the prior Sky Still Blue (2014), Gotta Get Back bears the involvement of the Wood Brothers but instead of Oliver Wood in the producers seat, that job is handed off to Wood Brothers keyboardist and drummer Jano Rix. Rix like Wood does nothing to get in the way of Walker, his guitar, his voice and his songs; his job was to make sure all is heard in full glory. Gotta Get Back is a little less guitar-heavy but manages to be timeless overall even more so than its immediate predecessor.
Titus Groan - Titus Groan (1970) Get Back/Get 564 - IT 180g Pressing - LP In 24bit/96kHz - ONLY RE-POST

Titus Groan - Titus Groan
Vinyl | LP Cover (1:1) | FLAC + cue | 24bit/96kHz / 900mb
Label: Get Back/Get 564 | Released: 1970/2000 | Genre: Progressive-Rock

Excellent addition to any prog rock music collection.
Featuring "Hall Of Bright Carvings"

Not quite a "masterpiece," but almost. Titus Groan were an early (they formed sometime in 1969 and released their only album and single in 1970) art rock/ progressive band who sounded uncannilly like a cross between Czar without the mellotron and The Move circa Message From The Country with a bit of Jethro Tull thrown in for good measure. This means high energy melodic songs with lots of guitars. sax, vocal harmonies, and great percussion work/drumming. There's occaisonal organ and electric piano, but mainly a much earlier guitar battling with flute, sax, and oboe sound.

This nicely assembled, if slightly lengthy, UK collection of Billy Ocean's ballads emphasizes the best-known hits from his `80's catalog, and also includes many non-singles and several newly recorded tunes. The first portion of the set holds the most mass appeal, as it contains significant chart entries like "Suddenly," "There'll Be Sad Songs (to Make You Cry)," "Love Is Forever," and "The Colour of Love." However, it's actually towards the latter part of the set that two of the real gems lie: one being the previously unreleased "Our Love Will Survive"; the other, the sorely overlooked Love Zone album track "Promise Me." "Our Love Will Survive," an outtake from the 1987 Tear down These Walls sessions, is a summery pop-rock ballad with more guitars and less predictable melody than Ocean's typical ballad fare.
