Freddy And The Phantoms are ready with their fourth record, the album Decline Of The West, and the danish blues rockers step into character on a grandiose, bluesy odyssey that showcases their dramatic width of expression. Swampy blues, heavy desert rock og epic art rock ballads are united in their timeless nordic melancholy. True to the legacy of the blues, there’s a certain darkness lurking on every corner, in the albums’ alchemist combination of southern gothic, existential dread and its tale of a civilization in decline.

The Danish five-piece group operating under the moniker Freddy and the Phantoms is being compared to the many bands following in the wake of groups like Rival Sons. It’s easy to welcome a comparison like this while overlooking some of what it implies. While Freddy and the Phantoms absolutely are a solid act, and while their third offering, Times of Division, is rightly being praised as an accomplishment of modern blues, it suffers the risk of being forgotten amidst the mass of music that it’s being compared to.

Whitehall and the Black Republic: A Study of Colonial Britain's Attitude Towards Liberia, 1914–1939

Whitehall and the Black Republic: A Study of Colonial Britain's Attitude Towards Liberia, 1914–1939 By Jyotirmoy Pal Chaudhuri
English | PDF,EPUB | 2018 | 293 Pages | ISBN : 3319704753 | 4.48 MB

This book examines the history of the relationship between Liberia and Britain—the world’s first black republic, founded by former slaves, and the world’s strongest colonial power. Jyotirmoy Pal Chaudhuri excavates a wealth of archival sources to reconstruct a turbulent narrative spanning key points in twentieth-century Liberian history.
Pal Chaudhuri argues that the Black Republic was never a serious item on the British agenda for constructive action in West Africa, as seen in the repeated failure of their concessionaires, their interference with the Firestone rubber project, and their efforts to have Liberia expelled from the League of Nations. Untangling the conflicts and contradictions between Britain’s colonial interests and humanitarian ideals, Whitehall and the Black Republic is a long overdue contribution to the history of Liberia and the British Empire.

American Apartheid shows how the black ghetto was created by whites during the first half of the 20th century in order to isolate growing urban black populations. It goes on to show that, despite the Fair Housing Act of 1968, segregation is perpetuated today through an interlocking set of individual actions, institutional practices, and governmental policies. In some urban areas the degree of black segregation is so intense and occurs in so many dimensions simultaneously that it amounts to "hypersegregation".

Connecting the field of Kierkegaard studies with the meta-ethical debate about practical reasons, and engaging with Alasdair MacIntyre’s and Bernard Williams’ thought, it explores the rationality of the choices for ethical life and Christian existence.
