The Trial of the Germans: Account of the Twenty-two Defendants Before the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg

The Trial of the Germans: Account of the Twenty-two Defendants Before the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg (Universitaria)
Publisher: University of Missouri Press | ISBN: 0826211399 | edition 1997 | CHM | 637 pages | 1,77 mb

The issues raised by the Nuremberg trials are dealt with in this book. These include: was it a necessary response to the crimes of the Third Reich?; how were Germany and the Germans capable of such extraordinary evil?; was the trial just, given the claims that the defendants were simply serving their country, doing as they had been told to do?; and if not just, was it nonetheless necessary as a warning to prevent future crimes against humanity? The author's approach to these and other questions of justice is made through examination of each of the defendants in the trial. His conclusion is: "In a world of mixed human affairs where a rough justice is done that is better than lynching or being shot out of hand, Nuremberg may be defended as a political event if not as a court". Some sentences may have seemed too severe, but none was harsher than the punishments meted out to innocent people by the regimes these men served. "In a certain sense", says Davidson, "the trial succeeded in doing what judicial proceedings are supposed to do: it convinced even the guilty that the verdict against them was just".

The Khmer Rouge ran what is regarded as one of the twentieth century's most brutal regimes. Yet the Killing Fields of Cambodia remain unexplained. Until now. One of the most harrowing and compelling personal documentaries of our time, ENEMIES OF THE PEOPLE exposes for the first time the truth about the Killing Fields and the Khmer Rouge who were behind Cambodia's horrific genocide. More than simply an inquiry into Cambodia's experience, however, ENEMIES OF THE PEOPLE is a profound meditation on the nature of good and evil, shedding light on the capacity of some people to do terrible things and for others to forgive them. This riveting film takes audiences as close to witnessing evil as they are ever likely to get. It is also a personal journey into the heart of darkness by journalist/filmmaker Thet Sambath, whose family was wiped out in the Killing Fields, but whose patience and discipline elicits unprecedented on-camera confessions from perpetrators at all levels of the Khmer Rouge hierarchy including Nuon Chea aka Brother Number Two now on trial for genocide. This is investigative journalism of the highest order.

"Law Of The Order" is a CD that is hard to categorize. This isn’t your typical hair metal. It isn’t flamboyant enough to be glam (but they sure tried to market the band that way). This is more of a straight forward hard rock cd, and a very good one at that. "Law Of The Order" is one of those CD’s that you truly need to hear to appreciate. There are several really good songs on this disc including Paris Calling, Somebody’s Falling, Get Some Strange, Passion to Ashes, and an excellent jamming cover of the Fleetwood Mac tune, The Chain.

Space Echo - the secret behind the "Cosmic Sound" from Cabo Verde is finally revealed! In spring 1968, a cargo ship in the port of Baltimore opened with an important mission of musical instruments leak. His final destination was Rio de Janeiro, where the exhibition EMSE (Exposição Mundial Do Son Eletrônico) should take place. It was the first exhibition of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, and many of the leading companies in the field of electronic music participated. Rhodes, Moog, Farfisa, Hammond and Korg, just to name a few, were all eager to showcase their latest synthesizers and other devices in a growing and promising South American market, led by Brazil and Colombia. The ship wrecked eight kilometers from the coast of Cape Verde and so the instruments arrived on the island. Eight of the fifteen songs that are presented in this compilation were, with the support of the band Voz de Cabo Verde, led by Paulino Vieira, the mastermind and creator of "The Cosmic Sound of Cabo Verde", added.
