"Food for Thought" was Pink Cream 69's fifth studio album, released in 1997. With the departure of Andi Deris, his replacement David Readman didn’t exactly endear himself to old school Pink Cream 69 fans with Change and on Food For Thought he didn’t win them over yet again. It wasn’t until Electrified when the band became a lean melodic hard rock machine that surpassed even the Deris years, but that is for another story on another day. The music on Food For Thought is a more refined mix of their old sound, melodic hard rock, and modern influences like grunge and alternative stylings.
"A true professional in the game/what part of the game is this when Britney Spears is trying to flow?" is one of many impressive lyrics Cali Sunshine drops on Food For Thought. It's an album (25 tracks total) that shows the Bay Area is shining bright, and his moniker tells people that he also wants to represent that Cali Sunshine through lyrics of dignity and strength, with a little partying on the side.
The album works quite well with the amount of different styles he goes through, it's not Hyphy dominant by any means nor does it reply on the Bay Area hip-hop monarchs of the past. With the amount of music coming out of the Bay Area as of late you either have to show and prove or get out of the way, and fortunately Cali Sunshines proves he has what it takes to move crowds and units. He can easily get into tales about the hustlers around the way ("Swimmin' Wit Sharks") or the freedom of the outdoors ("Thank God 4 Da Summertime") without weakening his strength and abilities in other areas of his lyrical game. He talks the talk, walks the walk, and knows his strengths and weaknesses. With this album, he's a true professional with the kind of talent that will take him places.
