This is one of the most classic R&B Christmas albums ever recorded; the Temptations come steppin' in prime form. With a chiming introduction, 'Give Love on Christmas Day' is an uplifting jingle showcasing Glenn Leonard's unwavering falsetto on lead. 'Everything for Christmas' has mellifluous background vocals, with string and horn arrangements rounded out by Richard Street's indelible delivery. 'The Christmas Song' and 'Silent Night' are two incomparable selections featuring various members on lead, including Melvin Franklin's admirable bass exhibition. Dennis Edwards shines on the jubilant 'This Christmas,' which also features a spirited musical interlude. In minimal words, this collection of Christmas carols ranks among the best.

Although 1975's „A Song For You“ was the last truly great Temptations album, it's a killer, and it should come as a revelation to anyone who thinks the band didn't do anything worthwhile after Dennis Edwards took over lead vocals following the departures of David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks. Edwards's gruffer voice does take a bit of getting used to for those accustomed to Ruffin and Kendricks's smooth sounds, but he's a fiery, impassioned lead singer. His delivery of the Leon Russell-written title track shreds not only the better-known Carpenters version, but also the Donny Hathaway rendition that many feel is definitive. The other highlight is the scorching "Shakey Ground," a cataclysmic funk powerhouse co-written by Funkadelic guitar legend Eddie Hazel, who delivers some searing solos on the track. Longtime Temptations fans consider this one of the group's finest albums, up there with „Cloud Nine“ and „In A Mellow Mood“.

This classic Neville Brothers album, the group's second release, was issued in 1981 and is chock full of guests, including a then-unknown 18-year-old Whitney Houston (and her mother Cissy) on background vocals and musicians such as Dr. John, percussionist Ralph MacDonald and a cappella group The Persuasions. Rolling Stone included Fiyo On The Bayou at number 66 on its list of the 100 best albums of the 1980s and Keith Richards called it the best album of 1981.

A monster album, the one that put them back in the spotlight and signaled that Norman Whitfield had saved the day. Damon Harris had replaced Eddie Kendricks, and there were many doubters convinced the band was finished. Instead, Whitfield revitalized them via the majestic single, "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone." Despite its length, Whitfield's decision to open with an extensive, multi-layered musical suite and tease listeners was a master stroke. By the time Dennis Edwards' voice came rushing in, no one would dare turn it off. The single, as well as "Law of the Land" and others, ended the funeral arrangements that had been prepared for the Temptations.

With everything the Temptations released pretty much guaranteed to turn to gold, not to mention platinum, even their tripped-out forays into sweet '60s psychedelic experimentation were sure to fire a string of hits. 1970's Norman Whitfield-produced Psychedelic Shack while perhaps a system shock to those fans who grooved to the band's lame-suited, Motown dance-routined R&B classics was a magnificent stretch into an epic that ultimately emerged as another in a long line of enduring sets.

Pair the outstanding vocal group, Singers Unlimited, with the incredible Pat Williams Orchestra and you end up with a production that is greater than the sum of its parts. Great selection of tunes, extremely well performed. The music in that instance being very pleasant lightly funky orchestral jazz.

In August-September 1966 the Pop quartet calling themselves The Sidekicks (John Spirt, Mike Burke and brothers Zack (vocalist) and Randy Bocelle) - not to be confused with a Punk Rock band of the same name - scored their only nationally charting single when Suspicions (written by Spirt and Burke) managed to make it to # 55 Billboard Pop Hot 100, b/w a nice cover of The Drifters' huge 1963 hit Up On The Roof, as RCA Victor 47-8864. That modest success earned them the album you see covered here titled "Fifi The Flea".
