Being the only place in the northern North Atlantic yielding late Cainozoic terrestrial sediments rich in plant fossils, Iceland provides a unique archive for vegetation and climate development in this region. This book includes the complete plant fossil record from Iceland spanning the past 15 million years. Eleven sedimentary rock formations containing over 320 plant taxa are described. For each flora, palaeoecology and floristic affinities within the Northern Hemisphere are established.

Of all the factors making the more cynical amongst us dread the oncoming of another festive season, the preponderance of the same dozen records spun endlessly across the airwaves and in department stores for months prior to the big day, is one of the most potent. But with a compilation as refreshing, thrilling and eclectic as this alternative yuletide collection now available, with its delightful tunes actually complementing the event in question, the time has come to welcome in the season of goodwill while enjoying the likes of The Reindeer Boogie, North Pole Rock, Mambo Santa Mambo or one of 53 other Christmas Crackers as presented on this 2 disc set.

A Lot of Livin' to Do introduces Jonathan Poretz, an impressive new crooner whose singing sometimes recalls Mel Tormé (particularly on the more up-tempo material) but is fresh and original within the genre. Poretz has an attractive voice, he swings, and he shows versatility on the high-quality standards. High points include "A Lot of Livin' to Do," "I'll Remember April" and "On the Street Where You Live." Poretz's backup group is very jazz-oriented and there are quite a few excellent solos from Noel Jeweks (on four different instruments) and pianist Lee Bloom. Overall, this is a very impressive effort.
