Tal Farlow, was an innovative self-taught jazz guitarist who influenced generations of guitarists following in his footsteps. Although some of his peak years as a recording artist occurred during his association with Verve between 1954 and 1959, relatively few of the tracks were available for decades until the release of this comprehensive Mosaic box set. The music is consistently brilliant, as the leader's solos seem to evolve effortlessly, often finding fresh ground in the many standards and classic jazz compositions performed in this set. Aside from the three opening tracks from Farlow's days as a member of vibraphonist Red Norvo's trio, the guitarist is the leader.

Most UFO fans consider the only real lineup to be when guitarist Michael Schenker decides to grace the band with his presence. And truth be told, this is a valid point – the group's best work seems to occur whenever the unpredictable guitarist is present, whether it was in the '70s (1977's Lights Out, 1979's exceptional Strangers in the Night) or his mid-'90s re-entry (1995's Walk on Water). But shortly after the dawn of the 21st century, Schenker decided to jump ship once more for his solo career, and the band was left with the decision of "to be or not to be." What resulted was probably UFO's most interesting and strongest non-Schenker lineup ever…

This EMI Classics release from 2003 features the Sabine Meyer Wind Quintet in works by five contemporary composers: Edison Denisov, Niccoló Castiglioni, Toshio Hosokawa, Michael Obst and Alexander Raskatov. It's a wide array of styles, and since I came across this disc while exploring the music of Raskatov and Hosokawa, I'll limit my review to their pieces…….

In my opinion, there's something special when a progressive band plays an album (especially a concept album) in it's entirety and presents it in the spirit with which it was created. Filmed live at the O13 in Tilburg, IQ performed Subterranea before a packed audience, and despite a major glitch - the actual show was actually stopped after the first 10 minutes of the performance ast there was some technical problems with the light - the band appeared to enjoy themselves and the crowd enthusiastically responds.

He reaches her, but a German agent is quickly onto him, and Lodor dies. Jesper must now get into Italy, go underground with the help of Gina, a resistance leader, and convince Polda, a physicist there, to leave with him.
