No need to introduce Erik Truffaz and the characteristic sound of his trumpet, unmistakable yet unpredictable. Crowned with glowing (and fully deserved) praises, the Franco-Swiss jazz-man takes his melodies on a journey through audacious and surreal musical lands, following and exalting the mutations, hybridisations and contradictions of Jazz. Fusion, rock, hip hop, EDM,… Erik Truffaz has tried them all, always staying true to his mischievous and dreamy spirit.

New line-up, new energy, new sound. After 3 years of musical silence, the new ERIK TRUFFAZ QUARTET is back! Marc Erbetta, the bands first and foremost drummer, left his seat to fresh and young blood embodied by Arthur Hnatek, a young musician who lived in New York and plays with groundbreaking artists like Tigran Hamasyan. New inspiration and influences color the new album, taken from a rich and scenic collaboration with the South African dans company VUYANI. Still standing at the frontier of jazz and instrumental pop, balancing between originality and accessibility the ERIK TRUFFAZ QUARTET, faithful to a tradition established since many albums, invites two world renown and award-winning voices to this recording: Rokia Traoré and Oxmo Puccino.

Swiss trumpet player Erik Truffaz has hooked up with his former musical accomplices to turn out a dark, melancholy album, In Between. His trumpet soars through the sound of rigged keyboards and accompanies the voice of singer Sophie Hunger. After three years and three albums springing from some fruitful partnerships (Benares, Paris and Mexico), Erik Truffaz has gone back to his old quartet.

An odd reissue of sorts, Bending New Corners combines tracks off two of trumpeter Erik Truffaz's previous albums. It is unclear why Blue Note felt the need to repackage these tracks yet again; however, here they are and they are worth a listen. Containing tracks from the sessions that produced The Mask and its European version, The Dream, Bending New Corners is a groove-oriented work that draws heavily on late-'60s and early-'70s Miles Davis.

Truffaz has experimented with electronica-tinged dance music and ensemble improvisation, but on his 1997 major label debut Out Of A Dream, he channels the spirit and sound of Miles Davis. The way Truffaz delicately and economically phrases smatterings of thin warm notes begs comparison with Miles.
