Where The Great Southern Trendkill experimented with slower, moodier pieces, Reinventing the Steel finds Pantera sticking to the pulverizing basics of their sound, with the first down-tempo, nondistorted guitar part appearing on the next-to-last track, "It Makes Them Disappear," and vanishing about 15 seconds into the song…

Thankfully, Pantera has stopped attempting to outdo each successive album in terms of start-to-finish intensity, but that doesn't mean they don't try in spots. The Great Southern Trendkill is burdened with passages in which Phil Anselmo's vocals cross the line into histrionics, making the band's trademark intensity sound dull, forced, and theatrical rather than sincere. The lyrics, which reached their apex with Vulgar Display of Power's focus on personal politics and integrity, have degenerated into half-baked rants against drugs and pop-culture media…

Far Beyond Driven may have been Pantera's fastest selling album upon release, but it's hardly their best. In fact, although it shot straight to the number one spot on the Billboard sales chart in its first week (arguably the most extreme album ever to do so), this incredible feat doesn't so much reflect its own qualities as those of its predecessor, 1992's Vulgar Display of Power…

This is a must-have for JPJ or those who collect Zeppelin material. This isnt the bone crushing rock n roll you expect but some good experimentation by Jonsey. With Jimmy Page on 2 tracks and Jon Anderson of Yes on 2 tracks, plus the bonus of Jones himself singing on tracks, I really enjoyed the various types of music on this. "Crackback" will remind you of the same hard hitting sound heard on Zep 4 while "Chilli Sauce" is all in the mind of Jones stepping away from Zeppelin and into his own. A sweet piece of work for sure and when you select this CD for the collection, dont forget to pick up "Zooma"also.

Concha Buika is a Spanish singer of Equatorial Guinean descent who has established a special place, akin to royalty, for herself in Latin jazz circles. That might all change, however, with the release of her new album Vivir Sin Miedo, out Oct. 16 on Warner Brothers Latin. Her previous release, La Noche Más Larga, won a Latin Grammy in 2013, but Vivir Sin Miedo–coproduced with Martin Terefe (Mary J. Blige, Jamie Cullum, Coldplay) and recorded in Miami, New York, London and Madrid–is stylistically a departure from the flamenco-tinged Latin jazz with which Buika established herself. The album leans more in a Caribbean direction, and vocally in a global pop direction. Most of the tunes on the album have reggae rhythms and a touch of dub production. Buika sings equally in English and Spanish, perhaps reflecting experiences of her new home, Miami. However, Buika has never really fit into strict genre classifications anyway, so these changes should come as no surprise to her fans.
