Every musician is a product of their influences. It would be dishonest for me to deny the influence of B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Lightnin' Hopkins and others however the two profound "game changers" were Freddie King and Magic Slim. A quote from B.B. or Muddy may come at any time in my performance, but the giants who take me to the gig and stand with me are Slim and Freddie.

The original 1970 MGM album on CD and Digital for the first time, plus a second disc of rarities and previously unissued songs. Lester Bangs, in Rolling Stone magazine, said the album was, “like a labor of love, a salute from a young visionary to an ancient sage.” Allen Ginsberg began “tuning” William Blake’s poetry in 1968 (inspired by attending the tumultuous protests at that year’s Democratic Convention in Chicago), but the origin of the album dates back to a 1948 vision or “auditory illumination” as he called it, of William Blake reciting poetry to him in his Spanish Harlem apartment.

Dutch pianist Marcel Worms has been performing his programme New Blues for Piano since 1997. Some 200 new blues pieces from around 50 different countries were commissioned for Worms for this project and this release features a selection from the most recent repertory of new blues (composed between 2011 and 2016) as well as pieces from the repertoire of the entire project that are most dear to Worms. The project highlights the significance of the blues in jazz and the pieces provide insight into what the blues mean to the contemporary composer.
