Niccolò Piccinni (1728-1800) has, with great grip on reality, spent much of his time participating in the great European theater life by touching, and sometimes stumbling, into the turbulent historical events. Pugliese, a great Neapolitan school - soon touched on him - Piccinni looked with interest to Goldonian theater and to the realities of the Alps: for forty-eight years he is in Paris and takes part in the intense musical life, attends Mozart and competes frantically with Gluck. Despite French success, Piccinni does not forget Naples where he returns to create. In old age, he is back in Paris to die at Passy, a suburb that in the last six years - Rossini finally took his last home - would have to look like the ancestor of Paradise.
