Just as the title says, the 2001 Deep Purple DVD, New, Live & Rare: The Video Collection 1984-2000, collects all of the legendary British metal band's promo videos as well as scattered live clips from their 1984 reunion up to the time of this DVD's release. As longtime fans know, Deep Purple's true glory days lay in the early '70s, when they dropped such classic molten metal releases as In Rock, Fireball, and Machine Head on an unsuspecting world. And while its bandmembers have kept Purple alive well into the new millennium (despite line-up juggling), most of the newer material on New, Live & Rare doesn't hold a candle to the band's earlier classics.

The latest Sonic Zoom transfer is an interesting collection of various one-off live tracks, none of which had been issued officially before until this title (although some have surfaced on bootlegs) - which has been out of print since 2004 (PUR 209) and is at last repackaged to match other titles in the collection. These CDs, which have been fully authorised by the original management company form an ongoing series of official archive releases…

After satisfying all of their classical music kinks with keyboard player Jon Lord's overblown Concerto for Group and Orchestra, Deep Purple's soon to be classic Mark II version made its proper debut and established the sonic blueprint that would immortalize this lineup of the band on 1970's awesome In Rock…

Legendary hard rockers Deep Purple have an enduring reputation as one of the most rounded bands currently playing. The 12 CD set Deep Purple Collectors Edition: The Bootleg Series 1984-2000 suffers from poor sound quality in places (in particular the first concert); however, it covers six concerts and two line-ups, mostly with reasonable quality and several from tours not otherwise documented (in particular the 1984 Mark II Reformed line-up), making it a must-have for truly dedicated fans of the reformed Purple. Taken from six different bootlegs, the album features virtually all the band's biggest hits numerous times.

No one, least of all Deep Purple themselves, expected the success of 2013's Now What?! It placed at number one on four European album charts and in the Top Ten of six other countries. It also sold exceptionally well: It was certified Gold in Poland, Germany (where it sold over 100,000), the Czech Republic, and Russia – it was the band's first album to crack the U.K.'s Top 40 charts in 20 years. For InFinite, Deep Purple re-enlisted producer Bob Ezrin. At this point, he is almost a sixth member. This the longest running lineup in their history. InFinite is a heavier and more expansive record than its predecessor, but it's not as consistent…
