Forest of Feelings is keyboardist/guitarist/composer David Sancious' debut solo effort after leaving Bruce Springsteen's employ. He not only played keyboards on Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. and The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle and the title cut on Born to Run, but also arranged them. A musical polymath, Sancious never met a musical style he didn't like – or couldn't master. Here he is fully under the sway of jazz-rock fusion and progressive rock. Produced by Billy Cobham, Forest of Feelings features Sancious on an army of keys – Hammond B-3, clavinet, Moog, acoustic and Rhodes piano, etc. – but also on guitar (on which he is just as proficient, if not better).

Jarekus Singleton (born July 11, 1984 in Clinton, Mississippi, United States) is an American blues guitarist, singer and songwriter. Refuse To Lose was his first nationally and internationally distributed album. It was released on the Chicago-based independent blues record label Alligator Records on May 6, 2014. England's Blues & Rhythm called Singleton "a great, new blues talent…young, original, soulful and intense…superb, blistering guitar." According to Living Blues magazine, "Jarekus Singleton is making some serious blues noise…blending modern-day blues and emotionally intense soul with melodic, hot-toned lead guitar, funk-seasoned rhythms and hip-hop flavored lyrics." The Washington Post said, "Jarekus Singleton is an exciting new young blues guitarist with melody, hooks, swagger and a strong, original voice. His lyrics are modern, personal, acutely poetic and deeply mature." USA Today said of Singleton, "Stinging blues guitar and potent, original songs herald the emergence of a major new talent."

When your resume ranges from being the musical director/pianist for George Benson for the past two decades to charter member with intrepid Cryptogramophone label head/violinist Jeff Gauthier's Goatette, what do you do for your very first album as a leader? In the case of David Witham, it's to collect friends from across the musical spectrum he's worked in for his entire career and bring them together for a first meeting that's as eclectic and unpredictable as one might expect. Guest appearances from stalwart Cryptogramophone guitarist Nels Cline and ubiquitous steel guitarist Greg Leisz aside, Witham's core quintet on Spinning the Circle might seem, on paper, to be one headed for a train wreck, but only if you're not familiar with their full breadth of expertise and ability to mold into any context. Witham, who contributes all but one of the disc's eight tracks, provides plenty of contextual diversity for his band mates.
