A popular singer of tearful ballads and jaunty up-tempo numbers; one of the most successful artists of the 1950s and '60s. Connie Francis is the prototype for the female pop singer of today. At the height of her chart popularity in the late '50s and early '60s, Francis was unique as a female recording artist, amassing record sales equal to or surpassing those of many of her male contemporaries. Ultimately, she branched into other styles of music – big band, country, ethnic, and more. She still challenges Madonna as the biggest-selling female recording artist of all time.

But in terms of the pure gift of interpretation of taking virtually any song and making it a country song of class and distinction, Smith is it.

She was born Concetta Rosemarie Franconero, but the world knows her as Connie Francis. From the humblest of beginnings to the very top of the recording industry, Connie Francis has seen it all. Within two years of her first hit recording "Who's Sorry Now?", a song that's really become her signature song, Connie Francis had achieved world wide record sales surpassing that of all female predecessors and contemporaries! For the record, Connie Francis is the only recording artist to have been awarded 10 Gold Records for 10 individual titles within a two year period. The rock 'n' roll era was a notorious boys club. Few girls got into the picture, and only one challenged the boys on their own terms: Connie Francis. This long-overdue anthology, capped by many rare photos, is a generously full CD that mixes Connie's greatest hits (Who's Sorry Now, Stupid Cupid, My Happiness, Lipstick On Your Collar, Everybody's Somebody's Fool, Where The Boys Are….etc.) with some of Connie Francis most rockin' cuts, some from the fabulously rare 'Rock 'n' Roll Million Sellers' album. Connie Francis versions of songs like Tweedle Dee, It's Only Make Believe and others stand up well against the originals. In addition to the rare photos, the liner notes in the 32-page booklet draw upon extensive original interviews with Connie Francis and those who produced her and wrote songs for her, including Neil Sedaka.
