Requiem, a two-disc set by Conspirare, the Austin, TX-based vocal ensemble, was originally released in 2006 on the Clarion label and received two Grammy nominations. This release on Harmonia Mundi has trimmed several tracks so that it could be issued on a single disc, and it received the Dutch Edison Award in the Choral Music category. It's easy to hear why it has been so highly honored.

On Live and beyond, Eric Johnson serves up a helping of live Texas blues rock with his band Alien Love Child, a trio featuring Chris Maresh on bass and bill Maddox on drums, with Johnson and Maresh sharing occasional vocal duties with guest vocalist Malford Milligan. Johnson's infamous meticulousness over guitar equipment and his recordings has delayed several of his studio records in the past decade, but Live and beyond presents Johnson in a less inhibited live setting.

By Eric Johnson’s standards, the five-year gap between 2005’s Bloom and 2010’s Up Close is swift. It’s the shortest time between albums since Ah Via Musicom followed Tones by a mere four years and although Up Close could hardly be called spontaneous, it does have a looseness that’s often absent in Johnson’s work, perhaps because it trades so heavily on the guitarist’s Texas roots, a point he underscores by having songs called “Texas” and “Austin.”

Country singer-songwriter Robby Johnson has finished his long-awaited full-length debut album, “Don’t Look Back,” which features a guest appearance by country great Vince Gill. The independently released album is due this summer via Sony/RED Distribution. Gill lends his guitar prowess to the album’s “I Ain’t the Guy,” which Johnson co-wrote with notable songwriters Kellys Collins and Juliana Cole. “It was such an honor to have Vince perform on my record. I’ve been a fan of his for some time and always loved his guitar playing,” says Johnson.

In 1961, Donald was introduced to high school band director Waymond Webster, who taught him to play traps on the drumset. By age 14, Donald Ray began his professional career with blues piano legend Nat Dove. Throughout his teens, Donald played with the two local bluesmen: organist Joe Daniels and guitarist Lavernis Thurman. They even played a live radio show every Saturday night. On January 18, 1966, Donald Ray entered the US Navy, serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Bon Homme Richard. After two tours in Vietnam, he was honorably discharged and relocated to San Diego.
