Woman with a Gun: A Novel

Phillip Margolin "Woman with a Gun: A Novel"
Harper | English | 2014-12-02 | ISBN: 0062266527 | 304 pages | azw, epub, lrf, mobi | 3,23 mb

I have read a couple of Phillip Margolin's books in the past, and I typically enjoy them. "Woman with a Gun" was pretty much what I was expecting, and thus I was not disappointed. It's a quick read, tightly paced, with a variety of modestly defined characters. Some of the plot twists I could anticipate, while others snuck up on me. This is the interesting story of a compelling photograph and the murder mystery at the center of it.

Moving from a filthy brothel to a fine manor house, from the world of street fighters to the world of champions, The Fair Fight is a vivid, propulsive historical novel announcing the arrival of a dynamic new talent. Born in a brothel, Ruth doesn’t expect much for herself beyond abuse. While her sister’s beauty affords a certain degree of comfort, Ruth’s harsh looks set her on a path of drudgery.

Viking Adult | English | August 14, 2014 | ISBN: 0670016926 | 400 pages | azw, epub, lrf, mobi | 3,82 mb

The definitive novel about the personal aftermath of war from the standpoint of the conquered, not the victors, and one of the only ones written from a woman's point of view. I was mesmerized by the story of these Vietnamese survivors and their attempt to come to terms with searing memories and PTSD, as they try to make a new life in America. I loved the author's previous book, MONKEY BRIDGE, and this one fulfills that promise.

Stay With me is labeled a romance, and while there most definitely is a strong love story in it, I consider it basically a novel and as such, it's great reading regardless of gender. I do belive that it will appeal more to women because it's written by a lady author and is told from the woman's viewpoint in the first person. However, it has enough of a thriller embedded in it to appeal to men also.
