Christine & The Queens is the alt-moniker of French singer/songwriter/actress Heloise Letissier and her debut album „Chaleur Humaine“ ('Human Heat') is an impressive first outing in the Listening World. Ms Letissier makes a pretty noise; an approachable and tuneful take on electro-pop which might also appeal to admirers of Imogen Heap. There are eleven songs in the set, some sung in her native tongue and others in English, so a dictionary comes in handy here and there. The album has been released as self-titled (Christine and the Queens) in the United States.

Already coveted by those in the know, last year Christine and the Queens took a step further into the international spotlight with a number of high profile European shows and scene-stealing performances at SXSW, a major 16-date North American run with Marina and The Diamonds and a solo sold-out headline show at New York’s Webster Hall. She capped a stunning year by joining one of her all time heroes Madonna on stage in Paris. She released her debut album in the UK in February 2016 and now Chaleur Humaine is available as a deluxe package with 6 bonus tracks and a DVD of the live show in Lille, France.

Christine And The Queens presents her first album for Because Music. She warmed up gigs, alone onstage with her computer, before opening a concert for The Do and recently, Stromae. It was her graceful performance at the Victoires de La Musique that got her nominated in the live newcomer category for Les Inrocks, so she went to London and locked herself in the studio with producer Ash Workman (Metronomy), and two multi-instrumentalist brothers (Michael Lovett and Gabriel Stebbing).

French music always sounded different from english or american pop music. Not only because of the language, but also because of it’s very unique sound. Blank & Jones have been travelling to france since the 1980s and always brought home some musical souvenirs. It started with names like Mylene Farmer, Niagara, Etienne Daho or Vanessa Paradis, later artists like Benjamin Biolay or Keren Ann followed. LIKE an early taste of summer, the new double CD compilation of ‘So Frenchy So Chic’ is here, with yet another great line up. Now is the chance to hear some of the musical acts who will appear at the January picnic parties in Melbourne and Sydney, such as Lou Doillon, who will be playing songs from her highly acclaimed folk rock record ‘Lay Low’. There is also the wonderful voice of the Franco-Moroccan singer Hindi Zahra, whose music is drenched in a hypnotic world blues universe.

Guernsey’s Alex Crossan—who trades under a name inspired by a 16th-century Japanese swordsmith—arrives. This is a debut album that circles a full kaleidoscope of electronic pop invention and fully justifies hype built when his Firefly EP arrived in 2015. Its juddering, NAO-assisted title track makes the cut here, alongside a full fleet of should-be singles. “Love$ick”—an update on another 2015 single and now with added A$AP Rocky—is a tropical banger fit for premium BBQ playlists, while Damon Albarn brings things to a mournful, gorgeous close on “Blu”.

Earthy, raw, and evocative, the genre-bending sound of Kela Parker channels the roots of folk music, "but like folk music from a country you've never heard of before." Like her unusual chord progressions, the singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist followed a winding, serpentine path to arrive at her distinct sound. Growing up in a family of classical and folk players, as a young musician she gravitated equally to Joni Mitchell’s alternate guitar tunings as to the dramatic piano ballads of Rachmaninoff and Chopin.
