Chris Standring offers his tenth solo recording with a dazzling soul infused groove-laden jazz set. Digging even deeper into creative territory, Standring continues to stand out from the herd and blaze new trails in the contemporary jazz world. Celebrating the remarkable milestone of album number Ten, an ever evolving catalog that includes the 2011 re-issue of his 1989 first indie recording Main Course (The Early Tapes) - he's still got the cool, trippy sonics happening via a colorful fusing of live instrument and DJ sounds. But this time, while keeping his melodies, rhythms and arrangements as infectious as ever, the British born, L.A. based hit maker fashions them as the vehicle for him to unleash his deeper chops as a powerhouse jazz player and improviser. Soloing with a wild abandon he's been holding back way too long, the longtime Benedetto endorsee introduces us to the latest love of his musical life, his new, gorgeous white Bambino archtop jazz guitar. Perfect combination? Sounds like a perfect Ten.

The trademark groove that guitarist Chris Standring cultivated with recordings such as ‘Soul Express’ and Love & Paragraphs’ served to define him as a serious contributor to the evolution of contemporary jazz. Not only that, his innovative use of a string quartet for the albums ‘Blue Bolero’, ‘Electric Wonderland’ and ‘Don’t Talk, Dance!’ further enabled him to stand out from the crowd. Now, in the familiar company of Andre Berry, Rodney Lee and drummer Dave Karasony, he is back with his tenth studio project, the appropriately titled ‘Ten’.

Chris James and Patrick Rynn have become a premier blues tandem over several decades. Even though only recognized universally in the 2000s, they're really hitting their stride on this 2010 release with a full-blown band that fully exposes just how talented they are. Help from pianists David Maxwell or Henry Gray, a strong sense of tradition, and energy to burn are the hallmarks for the James/Rynn combo to cut loose and play the electric blues they love. Authenticity is the key to the James/Rynn express, as they steamroll through covers written by Ellis McDaniels, Jimmy Reed, Robert Jr. Lockwood, old-school rock à la Chuck Berry, "Tequila"-type twang, steady rolling boogie, and some of their expected guitar/bass duets…

This album brings this band in one sweep among the most interesting bands around. This albums contains numerous beautiful themes, some, but not a lot of, rock, intimate singing, interesting lyrics and a very agreeable moody atmosphere. Musically Timothy Pure can be likened to Pink Floyd, vocally to the Moody Blues.

With his sixth CD, Blue Bolero, Chris Standring returns with a left-turning musical project so daring in its scope but still so true to his sound that it's destined to be one of the year's most-discussed projects, while certainly sure to be remembered in years to come as a highlight of the guitarist's works. He's taking a chance with Blue Bolero, but it's one his fans will certainly embrace as they follow Standring's ever-evolving career. "I think this one is probably the most honest CD I have recorded so far," Standring says. "I didn't care about commercial constraints. I didn't care about having special guest performers on the album for the sake of creating a sales and marketing perception. Everyone who performed on this CD was there because I felt they were the absolute best to help realize this album."
