Narratives of a New Order: Cistercian Historical Writing in England, 1150-1220 (MEDIEVAL CHURCH STUDIES) by Elizabeth Freeman
English | June 21, 2002 | ISBN: 2503510906 | 256 Pages | PDF | 1 MB

The origins of the Cistercian monastic order are currently under intense scrutiny and revision, as scholars identify how the written word was used to 'invent' a unified corporate identity. Here Elizabeth Freeman examines the classic genre for inventing a past - the history, chronicle, and annal - and argues that historical narratives of the English Cistercians helped define the characteristics of both the new Cistercian monastic order and also the new orders of twelfth- and thirteenth-century England.
A New Order of Things: Property, Power, and the Transformation of the Creek Indians, 1733-1816

A New Order of Things: Property, Power, and the Transformation of the Creek Indians, 1733-1816 (Studies in North American Indian History) by Claudio Saunt
Cambridge University Press | August 28, 1999 | English | ISBN: 0521660432 | 314 pages | PDF | 3 MB

Claudio Saunt vividly depicts a dramatic transformation in the eighteenth century that overturned the world of the powerful and numerous Creek Indians and forever changed the Deep South. As the Creeks amassed a fortune in cattle and slaves, new property fostered a new possessiveness, and government by coercion bred confrontation. A New Order of Things is the first book to chronicle this decisive transformation in America's early history, a transformation that left deep divisions between the wealthy and poor, powerful and powerless.

Digitally remastered and expanded two CD edition of this 1986 album from the Manchester quartet, one of the most successful and consistent bands of the '80s and beyond. The rest, as they say, is history. The album contains a mixture of post-punk and electronic styles, roughly divided between the two sides. Disc One in this package contains the original album in it's digitally remastered glory. Disc Two is filled with eight non-album singles, B-sides and remixes. This is as great as it gets!

Trumpeted in some circles as a New Order rarities collection, Lost Sirens doesn't really fit the bill as such, but it does offer a wealth of bonus tracks from circa 2005 – call it the second disc of the deluxe edition that was never released for Waiting for the Sirens' Call. Their eighth album, it eventually appeared to be the band's swan song, given Peter Hook's eventual estrangement from the rest of the original lineup. Compared to that album's half-hearted songwriting and rote sound, Lost Sirens positively shines – leading to the customary questions of why this material didn't replace several, if not many, songs on the original Sirens' Call. Most of the excitement is due to the lead-off track "I'll Stay with You," a solid rocker that sounds like it should've been their comeback single after 2001's energizing Get Ready. As on much of their work of the 2000s, guitar is forefront and synths are used only for texture, but with excellent results, led by the midtempo storm of "Hellbent" (the only previously unreleased track, which appeared on a 2005 hits collection).
