…much the best performance of (Britten's Ceremony of Carols) is given by the choristers of Canterbury Cathedral under their director David Flood. The recital is called, appropriately, 'Ceremony' … at the centre of its programme is the voice of the boy chorister, the treble, and that is something that deserves a celebration in itself.
Blood Ceremony is a Canadian psychedelic rock band formed in 2006 in Toronto, Ontario. Blood Ceremony's style has been described as "flute-tinged witch rock" and their lyrics are filled with black magic imagery and references to classic horror films. The band is fronted by singer/flutist/organist Alia O'Brien, whose flute solos are reminiscent of Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson.
This Collector's Edition presents a challenge to reviewers. There's so much of it. I could never do it any sort of justice if I approached this as if reviewing a smaller set. This, after all, comprises 37 CDs. As it is all I have been able to do is to sample, reminisce about known recordings and write around the subject. With this caveat stated, let's make a start.
There are three principal strands of Britten recordings. These are broadly tied into and defined by record companies, artists and eras. First we have Britten recording Britten for Decca.

One of contemporary music's premiere vocalists, Al Jarreau is the only singer ever to win GRAMMY® Awards in three distinct genre categories-R&B, pop, and jazz-a testament to his remarkable and enduring cross-over appeal. Jarreau's most recent GRAMMY came at the 2007 ceremony, when he was honored with Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance. With many of his biggest hits coming during his long Warner Bros. era, Jarreau's career now spans five decades-but until now, has not included a LOVE SONGS release among its wealth of treasures. Possessed of a voice suited to the rhythm of romance and language of the heart, Jarreau's genius shines on this stirring collection.
Herbst9 is a ritual ambient project from Leipzig, Germany, founded in the Summer of 1997 by Henry Emich and Frank Merten, who are also behind the industrial project Land:Fire. "H9's music is the darkness from the deep and hidden places of the world made substantial, the inhalations and exhalations of the very earth beneath our feet, and the steam and bile of nature's eruptions".
Digitally remastered and expanded two CD edition of this 1981 album from the Manchester quartet, one of the most successful and consistent bands of the '80s and beyond. After the suicide of vocalist, Ian Curtis, the three surviving members of Joy Division regrouped under the band name New Order, adding Gillian Gilbert on keyboards. The rest, as they say, is history. Disc One in this package contains the original album in its digitally remastered glory. Disc Two is filled with 10 non-album singles, B-sides and remixes. This is as great as it gets!
