Norwegian band Circles End was first formed in 1994 under the name Venture. Later, the band's name was changed to Plethora when they played their first gig in 1996. The definitive change of the name to Circles End happened a few months afterwards, when the band started writing new material in the hope of recording a CD. With the help of a guest keyboardist, inthe summer of '98 the band booked a local studio and recorded five of their own songs, which became their first, self-titled EP, released in August '98. Their first album, "In Dialogue with the Moon", was released independently at the beginning of 2001, to remarkable critical acclaim on the prog rock scene. The first impression after listening to this CD is that this is a real progressive rock album, with all the elements of the genre, progression in the music with lots of nuances and elaborated arrangements…

On Glass Piano Concerto No.3: Like a slowly-whirling centrifuge, Philip Glass s beguiling new Piano Concerto No. 3 given its world premiere at Jordan Hall on Friday by A Far Cry and pianist Simone Dinnerstein isolates and concentrates two aspects of the composer s personality long in particularly intriguing tension: his romantic streak and his meditative austerity. Much of the concerto is a lush churn of unsettled harmonies, soloist and string orchestra in search of resolution. Yet resolution comes not with triumph, but by deliberate, cyclical turns.

Due to Michael League's prolific body of work with his record label, GroundUp Music, he has his fingers in many pies, the latest of which is a new band, started by the Snarky Puppy guitarist/bassist/producer, called Bokanté. The word means "exchange" in Creole, the language of the band's vocalist Malika Tirolien, and the music is meant to represent this idea of a cultural exchange between the melting pot of musicians involved. For the most part, Strange Circles delivers; a vibrant album that makes clear the individual influences from each band member, but League's somewhat predictable arrangements give the session a somewhat sterile feel.

Red have brought back the Nu-metal sound of old, similar to Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory, this album is full of agression and melody amidst some damn good song writing. Every song here is a potential single, so its no wonder that 2 years after its release, they are still riding the wave of success of this album in the states, but not so much here in UK, because this kind of music is not "in" anymore, its all about the emo/indie bands these days, which is a shame cause the lyrics on an album like this are more hard-hitting and passionate than anything i've heard on the radio today. style.

Russian Circles are an American instrumental rock trio from Chicago, IL. Their sound consists of expansive guitar sounds created by guitarist Mike Sullivan's extensive looping and layering (a sound which he accurately reproduces at live shows), as well as heavily rhythmic drums and crushing basslines. They feature the cinematic soundscapes common to post-rock, but are not afraid to keep some sections heavy with a capital H, and have plenty of rhythm changes. They formed in 2005, and self-released an eponymous EP, followed shortly thereafter by their full-length debut, ''Enter''. Russian Circles provide a sonic adventure that should be enjoyable for any fan of the genre.

Courvoisier in her quartet, her large ensemble, and Mephista (a trio with Ikue Mori and Susie Ibarra). Halvorson leads a trio, quintet, septet, octet and is a member multiple bands including Thumbscrew, Anthony Braxton's ensembles and those of Taylor Ho Bynum. Both women often perform and record solo and in duo, Courvoisier with Mark Feldman and Evan Parker and Halvorson with Stephan Crump, Jessica Pavone, and Weasel Walter.

No, Anne Pacéo is not a "jazz drummer" like the others. Nothing surprising then that her fourth album is also … different? With Circles, stylistic borders fade, received ideas crumble and creativity turbines at full throttle! Between songs and instrumental thrusts, telluric rhythms and libertarian breaths, these Circles unfold an organic groove, poetic and inspired. Solidly anchored in the current jazz scene but always eager for "other" collaborations, as was the case with Jeanne Added, Mélissa Laveaux and China Mose, Anne Paceo surrounded herself here with singer Leila Martial, saxophonist Emile Parisien and Tony Paeleman for keyboards. The drummer says it herself, this opus was designed differently. "Circles is the culmination of a long-term success over the last four years..

The first of 4AD owner Ivo Watts-Russell's multi-artist studio sessions under the This Mortal Coil name, 1984's It'll End in Tears was a surprisingly influential album in many circles, key in the reawakening of interest in artists like Alex Chilton and the late Tim Buckley by a younger generation of listeners…
