South African House Music artist Sir LSG debuts his first album, a stunningly crafted piece of art for which he pulled together an impressive collective of international vocalists, musicians and collaborators. Titled 'Moving Circles', the longplayer represents the concept of life seen as a journey. It highlights events of love, life, inspiration, sadness and loneliness in one big turn. Just as there's a start and an end to everything, the musical journey begins with 'Departure' and takes you through different walks of life, before getting to 'Arrival'.

Russian Circles are an American instrumental rock trio from Chicago, IL. Their sound consists of expansive guitar sounds created by guitarist Mike Sullivan's extensive looping and layering (a sound which he accurately reproduces at live shows), as well as heavily rhythmic drums and crushing basslines. They feature the cinematic soundscapes common to post-rock, but are not afraid to keep some sections heavy with a capital H, and have plenty of rhythm changes. They formed in 2005, and self-released an eponymous EP, followed shortly thereafter by their full-length debut, ''Enter''. Russian Circles provide a sonic adventure that should be enjoyable for any fan of the genre.

No, Anne Pacéo is not a "jazz drummer" like the others. Nothing surprising then that her fourth album is also … different? With Circles, stylistic borders fade, received ideas crumble and creativity turbines at full throttle! Between songs and instrumental thrusts, telluric rhythms and libertarian breaths, these Circles unfold an organic groove, poetic and inspired. Solidly anchored in the current jazz scene but always eager for "other" collaborations, as was the case with Jeanne Added, Mélissa Laveaux and China Mose, Anne Paceo surrounded herself here with singer Leila Martial, saxophonist Emile Parisien and Tony Paeleman for keyboards. The drummer says it herself, this opus was designed differently. "Circles is the culmination of a long-term success over the last four years..

The first of 4AD owner Ivo Watts-Russell's multi-artist studio sessions under the This Mortal Coil name, 1984's It'll End in Tears was a surprisingly influential album in many circles, key in the reawakening of interest in artists like Alex Chilton and the late Tim Buckley by a younger generation of listeners…

Pianist Stanley Cowell's second recording as a leader finds him leading a powerful all-star sextet that includes trumpeter Woody Shaw, Tyrone Washington on tenor, flute and clarinet, vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, bassist Reggie Workman and drummer Joe Chambers. The challenging repertoire (an original apiece by Cowell, Washington, Shaw and Hutcherson) falls between advanced hard bop and the avant-garde, consistently inspiring the talented players to play at their most creative. Recommended.

Those lucky enough to score a "miracle" ticket to the Fare Thee Well concerts this summer were treated to some potent psychedelic jams during the shows' intermissions. The mysterious group behind those freewheeling tunes was Circles Around the Sun, a band convened by guitarist Neal Casal specifically for the project. The songs were composed and recorded during a two-day jam session. The results were so captivating, and the audience response so overwhelmingly positive, Rhino decided to give the music a proper release as a 2CD apart from the complete versions of Fare Thee Well.

Circles Around the Sun isn't a band so much as a project; one that served a specific purpose. Neal Casal, guitarist for the Chris Robinson Brotherhood — and occasional member of Phil Lesh & Friends — was approached by Justin Kreutzmann to provide five hours of music to accompany his visuals that would play during the intermissions of the Grateful Dead's 50th anniversary sendoff Fare Thee Well concerts.
