New version of the Paco de Lucía Integral, 27 CDs his complete work remastered. "Cositas Buenas", his last album, comes as a new in this new Integral. Now in a new economic format. This collection is a unique tour of the work of Paco de Lucia from 1964 to 2004. Five years after Almoraima, three after his experience with Falla, and his recent flirtations with Corea, McLaughlin, Di Meola and Coryell, this revolutionary album appears which, as Paco Sevilla notes in his book, is a declaration of independence. This is the first album with the participation of The Sextet with whom Paco would go on to mark out a new sound for Flamenco music.

"Slava": The Complete EMI Recordings of Mstislav Rostropovich (CD 18)

"Slava" - The Complete EMI Recordings of Mstislav Rostropovich
Classical | EAC (APE & CUE) | 18 of 26 | 172 MB

While this collection brings together all the standard tunes Mstislav Rostropovich recorded for EMI Classics, the "Russian" recordings are deservedly the headline grabbers. World premieres abound, from a searing account of Prokofiev's Cello Sonata with Sviatoslav Richter to an especially probing Shostakovich Second Cello Concerto, both given in the presence of the composers. Benjamin Britten, meanwhile, conducts his own Cello Symphony in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire. At the same time, Lutoslawski's Cello Concerto is simply staggering in its virtuosity and depth of musical feeling, as is its companion piece, the concerto Tout un monde lointain by Henri Dutilleux. Both are Rostropovich commissions. There are relative rarities too, in the Richard Strauss' Cello Sonata, some "lollipops" of Popper, Scriabin and Debussy, as well as the wonderful interpretation of the Miaskovsky's Cello Concerto. And there's a lot more. As the collection continues, dedications emerge from Russian composers far and wide. Boris Tchaikovsky gets a whole disc, with a Suite and a sizeable Concerto, while there are works from Tischenko and Weinberg. Shostakovich accompanies Rostropovich in the Cello Sonata, while yet more Russian contemporary composers, namely Ustvolskaya and Schnittke, are championed through the cellist.

This is the reincarnation of the same post brought earlier by slcn. Unfortunately, it's noteworthy debut was brutally cut short by a bandit of marauding trolls. Without further ado, a big shoutout of thanks goes out to slcn and many other contributors, without whose support this would not have been possible.

One of the most persistent questions that musicians ask themselves while practicing a piece is the inevitable query of how the composer himself might have performed his music. There are many written reports on how the old masters such as Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven may have played or improvised; and there are lines of teacher/pupil relationships which can trace their lineage back to the pianistic greats such as Liszt, but still we have to imagine the sound since we cannot actually hear it.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the pianist’s death, EMI has brought out the largest and most comprehensive Cortot collection ever. The set offers nearly every commercial studio recording released under Cortot’s name on 78 shellac, vinyl LP, 45 rpm single, or compact disc, including unpublished takes already released on CD. To be sure, it is not quite “The Complete Cortot”. For example, the collection omits Cortot’s 1903 sessions accompanying soprano Felia Litvinne, plus a 1925 recording containing the second half only of Chopin’s First Ballade coupled on shellac with the same composer’s Second Impromptu. There is no broadcast material, either. However, we do get Cortot’s unpublished 1957 Chopin Preludes and Ballades, along with a few samples from the pianist’s long-rumored, unfinished Beethoven cycle recorded at the Ecole Normale in 1958/59

George Frederick Handel (1685-1759), one of the preeminent Baroque composers, was born in Germany, educated in Italy, and spent most of his career in England, making him one of the first genuinely cosmopolitan composers noted, for the elegance, sophistication, and tunefulness of his music. He established his reputation in London as a composer of Italian opera, but after public taste shifted in the 1730s, he turned to English oratorios, the most famous of which is Messiah. Other popular works include Water Music, Royal Fireworks Music, the operas Giulio Cesare and Serse, and the oratorios Israel in Egypt and Judas Maccabeus.

Most composers couldn't fill 20 CDs with all their works; it takes that many just to house the operas of one of the most prolific composers in classical music. These late-'70s recordings (featuring the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne under the direction of Antal Dorati) were groundbreaking at the time and remain cherished documents of some of Haydn's lesser-known works. You'll hear Armida (featuring Jessye Norman); La Fedelta Premiata ( Fidelity Rewarded ); Orlando Paladino ( Orlando the Paladin ); La Vera Costanza ( True Constancy , also with Norman); L'Incontro Improvviso ( The Unforeseen Encounter ); L'Infedelta Delusa ( Infidelity Outwitted ); L'Insola Disabitata ( The Desert Island ), and Il Mondo Della Luna (The World on the Moon ) plus additional arias
