Helen Shapiro is remembered today by younger pop culture buffs as the slightly awkward actress/singer in Richard Lester's 1962 debut feature film, It's Trad, Dad. From 1961 until 1963, however, Shapiro was England's teenage pop music queen, at one point selling 40,000 copies daily of her biggest single, "Walking Back to Happiness," during a 19-week chart run. A deceptively young 14 when she was discovered, Shapiro had a rich, expressive voice properly sounding like the property of someone twice as old, and she matured into a seasoned professional very quickly…

Swedish electro-pop duo Sally Shapiro has debuted a brand new single, ''What Can I Do'' off their forthcoming ''Somewhere Else'' album, out February 26 on Paper Bag Records. The new album breaks the synth-pop duo's silence as the first release since their 2009 full-length, ''Guilty Pleasure.'' ''Somewhere Else'' features Electric Youth (known from the ''Drive'' soundtrack), Anoraak and Le Prix. The duo's melancholic harmonies and the '80s disco feel are still present, but there are also indie pop influences (a la Belle And Sebastian), as well as touches of funk, IDM, trance, jazz and ambient, Shapiro says.

You only have to hear the soulful baritone voice of Bruce Mississippi Johnson to be able to take an educated guess at his musical heritage. Born in Mississippi, in America’s deep south, submerged in the music of his Grandfather's church from a young age, Bruce was brought up on a musical diet of Al Green, Jackie Wilson (his Cousin), Lou Rawls and Gil Scott-Heron, and that is pretty much the history you would expect when you hear his matchless voice. A 6ft4 ex-US Marine, Bruce is an imposing figure but it’s his incredibly textured voice that really stays with you.

Pianist Bruce Levingston is artistic director for a New York organization that commissions new music and one of the works commissioned by that group was Philip Glass' A Musical Portrait of Chuck Close, given its world-premiere recording on this album. Levingston suggested the idea to Glass of a musical tribute to the painter after viewing Close's painting of Glass. The piece is in two movements, the first of which is full of alternations – between major and minor, between meters, between a rocking figure and running scales – that give it an overall chiaroscuro effect.

Singer-songwriter Bruce Sudano has a storied history in the world of music. His work became involved with the raw expression of internal challenges central to everyday life. From his chart debut in the 1970s with "Tighter, Tighter" (Alive N Kickin') and "Heaven Knows" (Brooklyn Dreams), to co-writing hits for Donna Summer, Dolly Parton, and Michael Jackson, to his 2015 single "One Beautiful Life" from The Burbank Sessions, his work crosses genres and spans several generations of listeners allowing intimate performances at full power. Bruce's new album reveals his take on our 21st Century World. The 10 tracks were recorded in New York City in Fall 2016, produced by Mike Montali, lead singer of local roots-rock outfit Hollis Brown.
