The Small Faces were an English rock and roll band from East London, heavily influenced by American rhythm and blues. The band is remembered as one of the most acclaimed and influential mod groups of the 1960s. Small Faces are also acknowledged as being one of the biggest original influences on the Britpop movement of the 1990s. Despite the fact the band were together just four years in their original incarnation, the Small Faces' music output from the mid to late sixties remains among the most acclaimed British mod and psychedelic music of that era. This digitally remastered and expanded reissue series of the British quartet featuring plenty of bonus material including rare and previously unreleased material.

Small Faces was the second LP of that name issued by the band in the space of a year, a fact that – coupled with its release a year later in America in somewhat modified form as There Are But Four Small Faces – has always confused fans of the group's work. This particular album was the Small Faces' Immediate Records debut, and caught the group in the transition from an R&B-based mod band into a psychedelic-oriented outfit….

During the British Invasion of the mid-60s, while the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Who were conquering America, one quintessentially English band stayed at home. Today, in America, the Small Faces are known primarily for their single "Itchykoo Park", and the fact that their drummer, Kenney Jones, went on to replace Keith Moon in the Who…

AC/DC had been in existence for six years and had released as many albums when they recorded this rollicking show at Towson State College, near Baltimore, Maryland. The band was in its prime, with vocalist Bon Scott leading the group through what would later be viewed as some of their strongest material, with the Young Brothers (Angus and Malcolm) driving the guitar-boogie riffs at full throttle. The band had just released Highway To Hell, the album that would break the entertaining Aussie band worldwide, and was burning up the rock radio charts with a platter of classics that included "Girl's Got Rhythm," "Touch Too Much," and the title track.

Because of her blues-based comeback in the '90s, Etta James was thought of by the general public – if she was thought of at all – as a blues singer, but there was a good deal more to the picture than that, as this two-disc, 35-track set makes clear. In many ways, James resembled a female Ray Charles in her unerring ability to tackle (and sometimes combine) all of the strands of American popular music, from rock & roll to R&B, blues, country, gospel, jazz, and pure pop and soul, while still maintaining a distinct feel and sound that was all her own, and she did this throughout a five-decade career that is impressive for its consistency.
