This spectacular three-part series explores the baroque tradition in many of its key locations. Starting in Italy and following the spread of the wildfire across Europe and beyond, art critic Waldemar Januszczak takes us on a tour of the finest examples of baroque art to be found, and tells the best stories behind those works. In Baroque! From St. Peter's to St. Paul's, Januszczak follows the trajectory of baroque from its beginnings as a Vatican-sanctioned religious art style to its ascendance as the first global art movement.

Join actor David Suchet as he traces the footsteps of one of the most important figures in early Christianity, the man we know as St. Peter. In this major two-part documentary series produced for the BBC, Suchet travels from Peter's humble Galilean birthplace to Jerusalem, where a terrified Peter denies his beloved friend and teacher on the eve of the crucifixion. Encounter Peter's miraculous post-resurrection transformation, discover the role Peter played in keeping the early church from splintering, and explore the question, what happened to Peter after he mysteriously vanished from the biblical account?

Be transported throughout ancient history to all regions of the world with this beautiful and unique presentation of Requiem from The Fraternity. With the exceptional art form of Gregorian chant, this recording has a mystical quality. With an ethos reflecting a time of sadness, representing that period of mourning inherent in the Requiem, this recording also simultaneously inspires a certain hope, a calmness and prayer, striking a glorious balance through the gift of poetic song. This unique recording contains twenty different tracks of sublime treasures, mostly Gregorian chant, and the album concludes with polyphonic motets striking just the right ending accent.

The pieces brought together on this CD range widely, from ceremonial works associated with affairs of state to intimate compositions addressing moments of great personal significance. Two of the three pieces by Parry best exemplify this contrast: if I was glad – written for the coronation of Edward VII and premiered in chaotic circumstances – fits into the former category, ‘My soul, there is a country’ (from Songs of Farewell) – composed in the year of his death – belongs in the latter.
