There have been plenty of single-disc Doobie Brothers collections released over the years. There have been two-part vinyl Best of the Doobies, there have been budget-line collections, and there have been OK overviews as well as excellent generous discs with all the big hits. There's even been a comprehensive four-disc box, but what there hasn't been is a double-disc set – something that falls between the conciseness of 2001's terrific Greatest Hits (the first CD to contain all the big hits on one CD) and 1999's four-disc Long Train Runnin' 1970-2000. That's what 2007's The Very Best of the Doobie Brothers is, a double-disc helping of the Doobies' biggest songs from…

Hard Rock / Classic Rock / Heavy Metal

Black Sabbath were an English rock band, formed in Birmingham in 1968, by guitarist and main songwriter Tony Iommi, bassist and main lyricist Geezer Butler, singer Ozzy Osbourne, and drummer Bill Ward. Black Sabbath are often cited as pioneers of heavy metal music. The band helped define the genre with releases such as Black Sabbath (1970), Paranoid (1970) and Master of Reality (1971). The band had multiple line-up changes, with Iommi being the only constant member throughout its history…

Heavy Metal

One of the most internationally successful bands in all of heavy metaldom, Auburn, New York-born power metal outfit Manowar – Eric Adams (vocals), Karl Logan (guitars), Joey DeMaio (bass), and Donnie Hamzik (drums) – have sold over nine million records since their inception in 1980. Steeped in the pageantry of heavy metal, the group's approach was designed to be the raw, primal, Viking antithesis of classic rock, and their music followed suit, based on raw, aggressive riffs, with lyrics that were mostly about fighting, violence, honor, and death…

Happy Birthday, dear Olivia Newton-John! Long Live, Livvy!

"Long Live Love" is a studio album by Olivia Newton-John, released in 1974 by EMI Records. It was not released in the US. The song "I Honestly Love You" was her first #1 single in the US, released on the album "If You Love Me, Let Me Know". The title track was the song Newton-John performed for the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest when she represented the UK. The song was first released as a 45 RPM single by Pye International, her first UK label before switching to EMI later in that year with a nod given to her Australian label as "A Festival International Production (England)", a mention which was given for most of her early releases from 1971-74.

"Let Me Be There" is the third studio album album by Olivia Newton-John, released in 1973. It consisted of her performances of a collection of 11 cover songs, plus "Let Me Be There", a new song first recorded by Newton-John herself. Outside the United States, it was called "Music Makes My Day" and it was published in the United Kingdom by Pye International, with some different songs, including the noted song "Music Makes My Day" a non-US release. It was produced by Bruce Welch, John Farrar and Alan Hawkshaw.

Having never made a completely satisfactory album, in part because many of their songs sound somewhat similar, this short but sweet 9-track “best-of” culls the most essential songs from the band’s first five studio albums and neatly sums up a damn good singles band.

Stormwatch is the twelfth studio album by the progressive rock group Jethro Tull, released September 1979. It is considered the last in the trilogy of folk-rock albums by Jethro Tull (although folk music influenced virtually every Tull album to some extent.). Among other subject-matters, the album touches heavily on the problems relating to the environment, oil and money. Stormwatch was notably the last Tull album to feature the "classic" line-up of the 1970s, as drummer Barriemore Barlow and keyboardists John Evan and David Palmer left the band the following year after the end of the Stormwatch tour, while bassist John Glascock died from heart complications during the tour.

Vocalist Cassandra Wilson has used her 15 years at Blue Note to explore the interpretive range of her voice, whether singing tunes by Van Morrison, Robert Johnson, Lewis Allan, Miles Davis, or Hoagy Carmichael. In many ways, Wilson has offered a new view of the standard by using classic rock and Delta blues tunes in her live and recorded repertoires. That said, Loverly is her first offering comprised almost completely of American songbook standards since Blue Skies 20 years ago. Wilson produced the recording in Jackson, MS, and surrounded herself with old friends: guitarist Marvin Sewell, bassists Reggie Veal and Lonnie Plaxico, drummer Herlin Riley, and labelmate and pianist Jason Moran…
