For a time, Repeat: The Best of Jethro Tull, Vol. 2 held the distinction of being the band's lowest-charting album (and by a wide margin, at that). This little tidbit of information usually engenders an internal dialogue along the lines of one of two things: the album must have little merit or the timing of its release was inopportune…

The Best of 10cc Live is a 2007 live compilation album by the pop band 10cc. The album was given away free with the British newspaper The Mail on Sunday in June 2007 to promote the band's 2007 June/July UK tour and the recent release of the studio compilation Greatest Hits … And More. Of note is the inclusion of the song "Welcome To Paradise", which was never released as a single and has never appeared on any "best of" or "greatest hits" compilation from the band.

Ultra-talented, Mel Tormé was one hell of a singer, he wrote hundreds of songs, acted in film and TV productions, wrote books and scripts, played piano and could handle a drum kit in a manner that made Gene Krupa smile! As all-encompassing as this compilation is, it can only provide a glimpse of the immense talent that was Mel Tormé, a performer of whom Bing Crosby once remarked: He s the most fantastic musical performer we ve ever had … the best musical entertainer I ve ever seen.

The Best of Nickelback Volume 1 is the first greatest hits album by Canadian rock band Nickelback. It was released on November 4, 2013 through Roadrunner Records (internationally) and Universal Music Canada (in Canada) to coincide with their October–November 2013 "The Hits Tour". Though frontman Chad Kroeger had previously stated in an interview that their upcoming greatest hits album would include new songs as well as previous hits, the final track listing contains only previously released material. The compilation features singles released from all but the band's first two albums; namely Silver Side Up (2001), The Long Road (2003), All the Right Reasons (2005), Dark Horse (2008), and Here and Now (2011).

Infusing traditional gospel music with Memphis soul, Detroit-based singer Rance Allen helped pave the way for the secularized gospel sound of the '80s and '90s. After signing with Stax in 1969, Allen and his group proceeded to bring their hip brand of gospel to the masses by scoring several chart hits and opening concerts for the likes of Isaac Hayes. This hits package covers the group's successful run in the '70s, spotlighting Allen's incredibly flexible and powerful voice (one listens to cuts like "Ain't No Need of Crying" and "Gonna Make It Alright" and it's easy to figure out where Prince picked up his misty falsetto from). The selections include Allen's biggest Stax hit, "I Got to Be Myself," the spiritually reconfigured cover "Just My Imagination (Just My Salvation)," and modern gospel pioneer James Cleveland's "That Will Be Enough for Me." Allen contributes a handful of slick and spirited groovers, like "I Give My All To You" and "I Belong to You," and even goes in for a little disco on another original, "Smile" (considering Allen's devout nature, it's hard to tell if the more commercial elements in the music came from him or hit-minded producers).

The Best of Branigan was released in 1995 and was the first greatest hits collection of singer Laura Branigan that was issued in the United States. This album also marked the end of Branigan's relationship with her record label, Atlantic Records. Only eight of the thirteen tracks on this anthology had charted, although it did include several of her major hit singles, such as "Gloria", "Solitaire", "Self Control", "Power of Love", and "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You". The album included two new tracks, "Show Me Heaven" and a cover of Donna Summer's "Dim All the Lights", the latter which was released as a single in late spring 1995 and became a Billboard Top 40 Dance hit.
