FBI Special Agent Sarah Ashburn (Sandra Bullock) is a methodical investigator with a long-standing reputation for excellence – and arrogance. In contrast, foul-mouthed, hot-tempered detective Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy) goes with her gut instincts and street smarts to remove criminals from the streets of Boston. Sparks fly when these polar opposites have to work together to capture a drug lord, but in the process, they become the last thing anyone expected – buddies.

War, Denial and Nation-Building in Sri Lanka: After the End

War, Denial and Nation-Building in Sri Lanka: After the End By Rachel Seoighe
English | PDF,EPUB | 2017 | 386 Pages | ISBN : 3319563238 | 4.67 MB

This book begins from a critical account of the final months of the Sri Lankan civil war, tracing themes of nationalism, discourse and conflict memory through this period of immense violence and into its aftermath. Using these themes to explore state crime, atrocity and its denial and representation, Seoighe offers an analysis of how stories of conflict are authored and constructed. This book examines the political discourse of the former Rajapaksa government, highlighting how fluency in international discourses of counter-terrorism, humanitarianism and the ‘reconciliation’ expected of states transitioning from conflict can be used to conceal and deny state violence.

Ten years ago Hurricane Katrina devastated the coast of Louisiana. Five years later the Deepwater Horizon exploded and spilled more than 200 million gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, the worst ecologic disaster in North American history. Amazingly those aren't the worst things facing Louisiana's coastline today. It is that the state is fast disappearing. When on Earth Day 2010 BP's Deepwater Horizon exploded and sank many in Louisiana predicted it would change the state's coastline forever, both its economy and its people. How has the coast changed in the past five years?

After the Flood: World Politics and Democracy in the Wake of Communism by Bogdan Denitch
English | Dec. 1, 1992 | ISBN: 0819562564 | 177 Pages | PDF | 1 MB

Denitch (sociology, CUNY) insists on the relevance of social democracy to the post-Communist world. His combination of jeremiad, analysis, and prescription is reminiscent of much left-wing writing, yet his contribution is distinctive. His criticism of the "antistatist" bias of the left is refreshing.
