Air Liquide waver between mystery and wonder with "Nephology", their debut for the seminal Rising High label. The twinkling and eerie harmonics of "The Cloud" help set the mood immediately before the acid comes to sweep the cobwebs away. "Semiwave" gets more spacious, and "Die Reise Im Teekessel" sweeps in on large swaths of sounds, both digital and sampled, as if drifts around. But the stunning "If There Was No Gravity" breaks through the consciousness with its lullaby opening and dreamy atmosphere. The third Brazen Abbot recording, Bad Religion, impressed with the same line-up and a stylistically similar concept in 1997. Continuing the Brazen Abbot tradition of creating high quality rock music, the album also received excellent reviews.

This is what the Divine Comedy or Pilgrim's Progress would look like if an Enlightenment radical wrote them. Finding himself on a quest through the forest of life towards the general rendez-vous at the end, our hero journeys first on the path of religion and faith, then the path of the philosophers where debate and ideas reign, and finally the path of worldly pursuits and pleasure. Along the way he dodges inquisitors, raging fanatics, insane philosophers, faithless lovers, and scheming social climbers.

English | Nov. 4, 2004 | ISBN: 0415320534 | 270 Pages | PDF | 1 MB

Russian Society and the Orthodox Church examines the Russian Orthodox Church's social and political role and its relationship to civil society in post-Communist Russia. It shows how Orthodox prelates, clergy and laity have shaped Russians' attitudes towards religious and ideological pluralism, which in turn have influenced the ways in which Russians understand civil society, including those of its features - pluralism and freedom of conscience - that are essential for a functioning democracy.
