Recorded live at Klooks Kleek, Hampstead, London on Monday 7th December 1964

John Mayall's debut album, recorded live in December 1964, is a little unjustly overlooked, as it was recorded shortly before the first of the famous guitarists schooled in the Bluesbreakers (Eric Clapton) joined the band…

Laserlight's Eric Clapton & Friends contains the great majority of the stray early sessions that get recycled endlessly on budget-line comps like this. Most of this consists either of live Yardbirds' material and other Yardbirds' oddities, and with guests Jimmy Page, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker. None of this is great Clapton but for the Clapton collector an interesting piece of history.

Ten New Songs is Leonard Cohen's tenth studio album, released in 2001. It was co-written and produced by Sharon Robinson. She played all the instruments except Bob Metzger's guitar on 'In My Secret Life'. The album peaked at #143 on the Billboard list, #4 in Canada (where it went platinum), #1 in Poland (where it went platinum [1] and #1 in Norway. Ten New Songs was the first Cohen album to be recorded and produced digitally, although not in a professional studio, but in Cohen's and Robinson's own home studios in Los Angeles. more..

When the original Animals disbanded, Burdon fell under the spell of the times and made a hard left turn into psychedelia, the fruits of which are gathered here. Unfortunately, much of this material sounds indulgent and dated, full of half-spoken vocals, sitars, heavy channel phasing, and all the other bells and whistles of the day. Even if his reach exceeded his grasp, Burdon was always a crafty singer and the best songs here ("San Francisco Nights," "Monterey," "Sky Pilot") have a kind of uplifting nostalgic charm.

This album is a 'best of'…sort of…!! Eric resings these tunes with a new band, so the tempo and production is different than the original 'album/radio' version. This is nonetheless a good album as it features the mainline songs, sung slightly different. Soul and emotion is still there in the tunes.

This album was originally recorded in 1982, but not released until 1998 (I think) as 'Nightwinds Dying'. This is another release of the same album. It contains the tremendous studio version of 'Tango', highlight in the bands concerts, plus some (unreleased) other songs. All in all is this a really great rock album! A must for any fan, and perhaps for everyone?

Rhino has done an incredible job, just as usual! Generally they take recordings that have languished in a corner for too long and give them the treatment they deserve: this means brilliant sequencing on a single disc, equally brilliant liner notes and a nice package, just for good measure!……

Originally released on Medium Productions (Karn's joint venture with ex-Japan colleagues Steve Jansen and Richard Barbieri), this uniquely adventurous and evocative selection of tracks written and arranged between 1995 and 1999 was finally released in 2001. Each Eye A Path reveals Karn at his most intimate and unfettered, Steve Jansen (who mixed the album) adds some typically tasteful drum and percussion parts.

Austin-to-L.A. transplants the Textones were one of the few post-new wave "roots rock" bands of the mid-'80s to deserve the appellation. (Unfortunately, they're mostly remembered, if at all, only as the band Kathy Valentine left to join the Go-Go's.) Unlike the terribly overrated Lone Justice or the beer salesmen in the Long Ryders or the Del Fuegos, Carla Olson and company came off like a punkier version of the Gram Parsons-era Byrds, with a poppy edge on unexpected covers like the Searchers' "Silver" and Neil Sedaka's "Keep a Walkin'."
