Jazz / Hard Bop

Reissue with the latest remastering. Comes with liner notes. Grand Prix Du Disque De L'académie Charles Cros 1959. Recorded at the celebrated Club Saint Germain, the formation presented here marks the third incarnation of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, with trumpeter Lee Morgan (then only 20 years old), tenor saxophonist Benny Golson, pianist Bobby Timmons and bassist Jymie Merrit. For the last two tunes, bop drum pioneer Kenny Clarke (who was living in Paris) substitutes Blakey. Besides the individual gifts of each member, the group forms a compact unit with a cohesive sound. “We play modern jazz”, explained Blakey during a 1958 interview, “and to understand it you mus listen. We study, we rehearse. The Jazz Messengers are very serious about getting the music across to you. If you don’t want to listen, maybe the person sitting next to you does.”

The Spanish band STORM was born in Sevilla, Andalucia, in the early Seventies. The musicians were performing a Progressive hard-rock heavily influenced by DEEP PURPLE. Their debut album, "The Storm" (1974), included the song "It's All Right", which became a single in Europe thanks to a radio-show contest sponsored by the BBC, "European Pop Jury". After a five years hiatus, the band recorded "El Dia De La Tormenta". Musea and Azafran Media joined forces to release a deluxe double-album including "The Storm" and "El Dia De La Tormenta", digitally remastered.

In the winter of 1854, Britain and France, with Europe-wide support, invaded Russia and besieged the fortress of Sebastopol in the Crimea. Their object was to curtail Russian expansion. It was the most destructive conflict of the century, with total fatalities comparable to those of the American Civil War.

Reissue with latest remastering. Comes with new liner notes. The first of two sets recorded during a weekend in 1961 features the Miles Davis Quintet at a period of time when Hank Mobley was on tenor and the rhythm section was comprised of pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Jimmy Cobb. What is most remarkable is the way Kelly fits into this particular blend of the Miles band. Kelly's interplay with Chambers is especially brilliant, because his sense of blues phrasing inside counterpoint harmony is edgy and large, with left-hand chords in the middle register rather than sharp right-hand runs to accentuate choruses.

Solidarity in Europe: Citizens' Responses in Times of Crisis By Christian Lahusen
English | PDF,EPUB | 2018 | 299 Pages | ISBN : 3319733346 | 3.4 MB

This volume provides evidence-based knowledge on European solidarity and citizen responses in times of crisis. Does the crisis of European integration translate into a crisis of European solidarity, and if yes, what are the manifestations at the level of individual citizens? How strongly is solidarity rooted at the individual level, both in terms of attitudes and practices? And which driving factors and mechanisms contribute to the reproduction and/or corrosion of solidarity in times of crisis? Using findings from the EU Horizon 2020 funded research project “European paths to transnational solidarity at times of crisis: Conditions, forms, role-models and policy responses” (TransSOL), the books addresses these questions and provides cross-national comparisons of eight European countries – Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, Switzerland, and the UK. It will appeal to students, scholars and policymakers interested in the Eurocrisis, politics and sociology.
